12th August 2010:
Customer up-ended and moved printer 3 floors down some stairs and without knowing and using “MOVE PRINTER level 0, 1, 2 or 3” program within maintenance menu area. Ink had leaked out of the open reservoir in the internal area of the printer, about 1900 ml of ink all down the stairs and in the printer!
When 1st Call 4 Serviced arrived the printer was switched on and asking for new ink cartridges as the printer had tried to refill reservoirs and emptied the old ink cartridges. Customer had ordered cartridges from 1st Call 4 service to arrive at the same. We needed to replace maintenance cartridge after fitting ink cartridges due to that being next message. Got back to the media message “no media loaded” which after having taken left hand cover off I found that ink was over the media advance encoder disk. Very similar to the fault on HP Z6100 Designjet the Friday before!
Cleaned disk with water on clean cloth and dried. Re-tested printer all okay.
Some information about move printer routine from service manual: Amount of ink which will be needed to be drained into the maintenance cartridge on below programs for moving printer.
Level 0 = no ink emptied into maintenance cartridge. no tilt or rotate
Level 1 = no ink emptied into maintenance cartridge. 30% tilt 10% rotate
Level 2 = 600ml of ink emptied into maintenance cartridge. 30% tilt 30% rotate
Level 3 = 1900ml of ink emptied into maintenance cartridge. able to up-end printer
If maintenance cartridge is above 20% there is a reset in printer service mode which will reset the chip on cartridge after you cleaned the ink out and dried sponge in cartridge which will allow you to use maintenance cartridge again.
